Adam Mustain
I would like to nominate Adam Mustain, a proud U.S. Navy veteran, for the Excel Roofing and Restoration Free Veteran Roof Giveaway.
Adam served our country honorably from March 8, 2005 to February 1, 2011. During his service, he was stationed at NAS Corpus Christi from 2005 to 2007, deployed to Camp Eggers in Kabul, Afghanistan from 2007 to 2008, and then served at NOSC Chicago and Great Lakes, Illinois from 2008 to 2011. He separated as an E5 Personnel Specialist, carrying with him not only the pride of serving his country but also the lasting scars of service connected PTSD, depression, and social phobia.
In 2016 Adam was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and since that time he has endured a long and grueling fight against cancer. He went through six rounds of chemotherapy and achieved remission, only to relapse in 2017, which required more chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. After another brief period of remission, the cancer returned in 2019 in the form of Hodgkin lymphoma. In 2022 Adam underwent CAR T therapy and once again achieved remission, but sadly relapsed later that same year. Despite these repeated battles, Adam has continued to face his health struggles with extraordinary strength and resilience.
Through all of this, he has never lost his humble and genuine spirit. He volunteers his time with VET Service Dogs, helping paint, repair, and contribute however he can, even when his own health is fragile. He gives quietly, without asking for recognition, because serving others is simply who he is.
Adam has also shouldered deep personal loss. Last year, his mother Michelle passed away after he cared for her during her final days. Through his grief and his health challenges, Adam has found strength in his service dog, Chanclas, who was partnered with him two years ago.
On top of everything else, Adam is now facing a roof leak in his home. This is something he cannot afford to repair at this time because of his medical and financial burdens. The added stress weighs heavily on him as he tries to focus on his health and healing.
Adam is the very definition of resilience. He has given to his country, endured unimaginable battles with cancer, faced personal loss, and still chooses to give back to other veterans. He is humble, kind, and selfless, never asking for help even when he needs it most.
Providing Adam with a new roof would not just fix a home. It would lift an enormous burden from his shoulders and give him the security, stability, and peace of mind that every veteran deserves. I can think of no one more deserving of this gift than Adam Mustain.

Tyrus Cobb
Tyrus has served as the Adjutant and most recently as the Commander for 8 years in the American Legion. He engages the community and is selfless in his service to aid veterans in need. He coordinates with Hines VA holding monthly lunches and Bingo for those that cannot leave the facility. He also engages with Fisher House which provides housing to family members so they can be close to a veteran receiving care.
